2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Vehicle Overview

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues a fourth generation that was introduced in 2011. A redesign is expected next model year, but the current platform remains among the best options for drivers in the market for a midsize SUV. The Grand Cherokee is special in that it offers all of the modern technologies consumers want but also delivers when off-road or hauling serious loads. While the changes for the 2020 model year are not major, they are important and include some styling refinements as well as the decision to make many of the advanced features—including driver assist options—available earlier in the trim selection. Let us explore these changes in our 2020 vs. 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee comparison.

Denver CO - 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee's Overview

Exterior – 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

You have as many as 10 body color choices, and there are more choices available as you move up the trim selection. The Laredo has 17-inch aluminum wheels, but available sizes range up to 20 inches. A great reason to step up from the base Laredo to the second-tier Limited is that you get remote start and a power liftgate as well as an auto-dimming driver side mirror. The Trailhawk is the first of the off-road-oriented trims, and it features unique exterior styling elements as well as off-road tires, skid plates and other off-road features. The SRT features a sport body kit as well 20-inch tires and a unique wheel design. The range-topping Trackhawk features high-performance tires, more aggressive-styled bodywork from front to back and many other exterior features.

The 2020 interior is similar to the 2019 interior with only some minor revisions here and there. The base Laredo comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, voice command support, Android and Apple integration, a six-speaker sound system and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. The Limited adds an 8.4-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, heated seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Trailhawk interior is similarly equipped to the Limited, but there are some Trailhawk-specific cues. The same is true for the Overland, which is a lot like the Trailhawk but without the off-road trappings. The Summit is your luxury trim and, among other things, adds premium leather upholstery and a 19-speaker audio system by Harman Kardon audio system. The SRT and Trackhawk are similarly equipped.

Mechanical – Grand Cherokee specs near Denver

There are no big changes when it comes to the mechanical aspects. Most trims offer you the option of either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The exceptions are the Trailhawk, SRT and Trackhawk, which are 4WD-focused models. All three of those trims received specialized equipment, which in the case of the SRT is an advanced AWD system that is more tuned for on-road performance.
